Getting In The Spirit With Tanksgiving Decorations

With so many different variations available, it's tempting to purchase and display any and everything associated with Thanksgiving. But Thanksgiving decorations should be incorporated so that they look good, are easy to put up and remove, and seamlessly function within the existing atmosphere.

Since this holiday occurs in autumn, it only makes sense to use fall colors and incorporate a color theme that matches nature. Autumn colors are brown, orange, yellow, red, and dark green. Of course other colors that are not traditionally associated with fall are appropriate too, as long as they are deep and rich rather than light and bright. Incorporating the correct color theme into Thanksgiving decorations helps to create the atmosphere and festive spirit of this holiday. And it really shouldn't require too much effort to incorporate or find these colors in your environment already. For instance, if you have wooden furniture, you've already got the browns covered! Other colors can be brought indoors right from the back yard, or where ever trees and fall fruits and vegetables are found.

Using the basic brown, orange, yellow, red, and dark green colors of fall, you can fill your environment with Thanksgiving decorations like centerpieces, candles, pumpkins, and such. While filling your environment with these Thanksgiving decorations, keep in mind how easy or difficult it will be to remove them. If you think it will be extremely difficult or almost impossible to remove a particular decoration, either use an alternative material for the decoration (preferably one that is easier to remove at the end of the holiday), or skip that particular decoration altogether.

Now since one of the main themes of Thanksgiving is to give thanks and to pay homage, your Thanksgiving decorations shouldn't necessarily stand out. They should instead, look and feel as though they belong in the home all year round. This will give your holiday a true home-like feel to it. Some of the types of Thanksgiving decorations that you can "slip" into your environment are fall colored couch pillows and couch covers, lampshades, and area rugs. You can also bring in some freshly cut wood (if you have it) and arrange it neatly on the side of your fireplace. And the same goes for outdoor Thanksgiving decorations as well. Outside, you could place a fall colored seating pad on your wooden bench (if you have one). And your porch (again, if you have one) is but a stage for a myriad of wonderful Thanksgiving decoration ideas.

Adding simple little touches of the holiday to your home (like the ones suggested above) will help remind others of what this holiday means to millions of Americans like you - and it will also strengthen your belief in a widely celebrated tradition.
